ABOUT DOWDEN DESIGN GROUP
The Dowden Design Group is a family owned landscape design business with foundations in Dowden Landscape Company formed in 1941 by Hubert Dowden. Hubert’s earliest projects included properly tending Victory Gardens planted by patriotic families during World War 2. His son, James, joined the company in 1952 and used his Korean War discharge check to purchase the first company tractor. James directed the firm’s evolution to landscape architecture in 1969 and his son, Craig, made Dowden Design Group a third-generation company when he began working with his father in 1990. Today, Craig takes great pride in the Dowden family business that has grown deep roots within the landscape industry for 78 years.

Our development of a landscape plan is based in blending shade trees, evergreens, flowering ornamentals, shrubs, perennial flowers, and ornamental grasses to orchestrate a landscape vivid in color, texture, and fragrance. We also specialize in the design of patios, outdoor kitchens, decks, walkways, driveways, and landscape lighting. Our landscape plans are designed to complement the building or home upon which we are working while respecting the natural beauty inherent to each property.
Our position as a landscape design firm allows us to develop a landscape plan tailored to the needs and uses of each homeowner or business client. Once the plan has been designed, we are able to provide copies to qualified contractors for competitive pricing. This process allows each of our clients to achieve the desired outdoor experience at the best value.
During the development of a landscape project, we recognize the importance of understanding the diverse landscape ordinances instituted by villages and designing a landscape plan within an established budget. At Dowden Design Group, we take pride our ability to communicate effectively with village representatives while constantly having our finger on the pulse of current landscape costs.
